Sergio & Leech Speak Out

I have been a silent spectator of the BPFL Insurance Cup this season. I watched as Verdes started the season in dismal fashion, losing against Newcomers Nizhee Corozal and several others. I watched as they lost against Cruz Azul 12-0 in agregate. And i knew something was wrong, this wasn’t the Hankook Verdes of last year, the verdes that fought to the last in the championship, something was wrong.

Apparently a lot was wrong. Amongst it all: dissent among the players and manager Sergio Chuc. It started with the return game at Guatemala. Apparently some of the players decided not to travel with the team, claiming sickness among other excuses. This did not appease the manager and he Suspended them, for the entire season it seems. The problem is that the players suspended were not any players, but their star players: Orlando “Leech” Jimenez, his younger brother Danny Jiminez and National Team Player Trevor “Burger” Lennon.

Apparently the excuses were false, and they just decided to boycott the game in Guatemala for patriotic reasons. A move that angered the manager citing that “They don’t have the team as their first priority”. This spat went public when Sergio, wrote back to the Amandala sports desk in response to an article congratulating Orlando & the other players for not going. And now Leech, the captain has spoken back by writing to the sports desk. He’s told his side of the story, he didn’t want to play not because of money, but because of other reasons.

What does this mean for our/my beloved team this season, simply that if Leech & the others don’t return by the next game, Verdes is doomed for the season, not being able to make it to the playoff’s and therefore finishing the season in dismall form. If Leech and the others do come back, which he’s hinted he will, it will still be a very difficult task for them to qualify to the play offs and more than likely all of this will affect the players and i honestly don’t think they will be able to defend their title this season.

As for me, I’m sitting this season out. I havn’t been to a single game this season, partially because of other duties, especially with my company and also because of Verdes’ dismall form and because of the Absence of Leech & Danny. I am a Verdes die hard fan as anybody who knows me can tell you, and will support the team in hard times and good times.. .but i hope the empty seats & the dismal result tell Sergio something, Verdes needs its star players, and yes the Club is bigger than any player, but as you have heard Leech say “Their blood runs Green”… swallow the pride and save the club some embarrasment.

Concacaf Champions League Results: The Postmortem

Quick Facts:

Yes Hankook Verdes lost against Cruz Azul on a total 12-0 scoreline.

Yes i was dissapointed.

Yes Cruz Azul were the better team

Yes Cruz Azul fans you can go ahead and pile it up on me.

But mind you, i did not ever say Verdes is capable of beating Cruz Azul. Rather i said i think they have a chance to compete and surprise them. Unfortunately it wasn’t so. Cruz Azul just proved how much class they have over our little semi-pro team. Fact: Cruz Azul one of the best mexican teams, Verdes small semipro team

Apart from that i was excited in seeing Chivas & N.E. Revs get their butts kicked by little Joe Public & Tauro F.C.

I think the Concacaf Champions League will be very exiting still with the smaller teams on the roster (even though Hankook Verdes is not there). I will definately watch the other games and certainly expect and upset or two! maybe Cruz Azul getting their asses kicked? :-)

Hankook Verdes United VS Cruz Azul tonight

Hello Hankook Verdes Fans!

This is Israel from israel.com.bz, www.red4.bz and www.verdes.bz

This email serves as a reminder that Hankook Verdes plays Cruz Azul
today at 8 P.M Belize time and it will be shown live on Telefutura.
If you’re in Belize City thats Channel 97 on C.B.C Cable

We had hoped to launch the Official Verdes Website at www.verdes.bz
but unfortunately we were not able to receive all the content
necessary from the team co-ordinators to launch the site. However
we have spoken to them and have agreed to the launching of the site
as soon as possible. Hopefully we can do so before the return game
which is set to be played in Jalapa, Guatemala on Sept. 3rd.

So to all you who are looking for information on the sites and on
google please rest assured that we are working on getting as much
info out.

In the meantime enjoy the game tonight!

Israel, Amilcar & Verdes.bz

Hankook Verdes United are champions of champions, official website coming soon!

http://www.channel5belize.com/#a14

Above is the link to Channel 5’s James Adderly take on the weekend game that saw Verdes defeat Super League Champions Texmar Boys to become Belize’s Champions of Champions. That means, they have won the B.P.F.L league and defeated the super league (the 2nd semi-pro league of Belize). I knew Verdes was to win, but i hear Texmar boys gave a great game.

In other news, talks are in with Sergio Chuc & Verde’s team coordinator to start working on their official website which will be hosted on http://www.verdes.bz so go over and sign up if you want to know when the site is up. We are in the process of receiving content for the site and as soon as everything is finalized the site will be uploaded as we already have the design ready.

Go Verdes!!

Belize's Hankook Verdes VS Mexico's Cruz Azul !!!

What the hell!!! I think one of the most exciting matches ever! Hankook Verdes my very own home team vs one of Mexico’s Power houses in football!

and how are we to do this? in the Concacaf Champions League, no less. While i had hoped for a smaller team, as luck would have it Belizeans would face up against Mexicans in the second competition for the year.

Though I think that Cruz Azul is not playing all that great, even if they finished runner up this season… i think they were not playing as cohesively as the greater Cruz Azul teams. Never the less nobody can dispute they are one of the biggest team in Mexico. And imagine they will come to the Norman Broaster Stadium!!! Of course i’ll be there to cheer Verdes along.

In fact, bigup to the Mexican fan who contacted me through the blog and asked if we plan to go to see the game in Cruz Azul’s Estadio Azul. We are already making plans and i think some of my cousins, friends & my brothers will definately make the trip.

As soon as i find out exact dates and where we can get tickets, (hopefully online on ticketmaster) i’ll let you know. I’ll aslo be giving away a ticket to the Game at Mexico to the first Belizean Verdes fan that posts a reply on this blog thread.

Go Verdes!! Go Belize!!

Wicked Weekend! Hankook Verdes are the new champions of Belize!

After 22 years!! finally for all Verdes fans the wait is over!

Verdes won the league in dramatic fashion yesterday.

In what could only be considered a dose of their own medicine, B.D.F lost at their own game: Defense.

From the begining of the game, Verdes came out determined to end the 22 years draught. Within minutes… Daniel Jimenez handed a pass to his brother Orland “Leech” Jimenez, the big hero of the game (though he was injured from the previous games, he showed grit and came out to play and win). Leech did not waste that pass and put the ball to the right hand side of the net.. pass veterean goalkeeper Charlie Slusher.

Verdes continued pushing, but alas, the second goal was not to come… but it didn’t matter… the 1-0 was enough for the BIG, BIG, Win.

The second half was a different ball game, looks like the coach told the team to forget playing football and just play like the were defending their nation in war. And this they did, eventhough the B.D.F were a threat during the entire second half, Verdes played one of the most physical matches ever, ask the B.D.F they were on the receiving end, with as much as 3 of their players getting injured. It also reflected when the referee gave a red card to one of the central defenders, after dishing out to yellow cards for the same play… is that possible?

But finally the Big whistle came, and it was juvelation inside the Norman Broaster Stadium… Verdes had finally won the title… the fans were exhilourous…as they had been a great support during the duration of the game. The players were so happy that most of them were crying…. What a day for Cayo, What a day for Verdes. They are now on to the big stage to UNCAF’s new Champion’s League format.

Congratulations big time to everyone who did their part… Sergio Chuc .. their manager, The coach, The Fans and most importantly the greatest players of this era: Daniel Jimenez, Orlando JImenez, Ricardo Jimenez, Shamir Pacheco, Wilhem “Locho” Coye (who was the player of the match), Stanley “Rice” Robinson, Eduardo Monroy, Jamie Brooks (who is on the road to being one of Belize’s best goalkeepers), and of course the defensive line up. What a Game Guys, What a season.

Cristian Israel Vasquez

Huge Football News!!! For Belize and For the Verdes.

Verdes Leading the League, Featured on UNCAF’s Home Page

you’ve heard right, somehow after a couple dissapointing losses and some draws Verdes gained it’s rythm and are now serious contenders for the top spot in the league. It all happened when they won over local rivals Santels 2-0, with two goals from Danny Jimenez. Then they went on to rally a win in Dangriga, and to the Revolutionary Conquerors no less (the Belize team that won the Honduran Champions, Real Espana), once again with a hat trick from Danny 3-2. You know whats scary is that this guy went on local TV and said he’d score 3.. how’d he do it? and against one of the most difficult teams in the league? They then beat Suga Boys Juventus at home 2-1. Unfortunately i havn’t been able to go to all the games, but I’ve gone to the San Pedro Game, the Juventus game and to what i consider one of the most controversial and exciting game VS F.C. Belize at the MCC Grounds in Belize. The game ended with a tie of 2-2 with verdes rallying back from a 2-0 deficit. In the end of the game, the F.C Belize fans got violent and wanted to go after the Referees for a late penalty call in favor of the Verdes. It also ended in a sad note as Verdes’ Striker Danny Jimenez was escorted out by the police, this seemingly for a non football issue.

It was a productive visit, as the Team’s Manager Sergio Chuc came up to me and asked if i had posted on about the Verdes on the Internet. After confessing that it was me, he gave me a heads up about the UNCAF article which is currently featured on the home page (http://uncaf.net/portal/modules/futbolmasculino/item.php?itemid=159 ) He also mentioned that its the first time UNCAF has featured a Belizean Team or the Leauge!! Way to go Verdes, another hightlight to add to their history books!! I also managed to get a chance to speak to him briefly about an offical website for the team, so look out for this .. It might be in the works soon!! In the Meantime the unoffical website is at http://www.verdes.bz where you can leave your email to be notified when the site will be launched.

Belize World Cup Qualifier VS Mexico? Strong Possibility!!

If we can manage to beat St. Kitts and Nevis that is!! I think if the guys begin to train now, they can certainly have a good chance at trying to beat St. Kitts & Nevis which ranks at 159 in the latest fifa rankings. If we do win the home and away series we get to play against the #1 concacaf team Mexico!! Wow, what an experience for the Belize Men’s National Team. what do you think we could try to upset Mexico like out neighbours Guatemala did? I think its highly unlikely but it doesn’t hurt to dream. For more on the WCQ draws visit the UNCAF site http://uncaf.net/portal/modules/futbolmasculino/item.php?itemid=160

Belize Premier Football League - RFG Insurance Cup Season Begins

Well being a big fan of football, i was looking forward to the start of the Belize Premier Football League season. My first glimpse of the season came via an ad in the amandala stating that this year there would be 9 teams competing:

F.C. Belize - Belize City (last year’s champion), Suga Boys Juventus - Orange Walk, Hankook Verdes - San Ignacio (My Home team!!), Revolutionary Conquerors - Dangriga (last year’s subchampion, they also beat Honduras’ Champion Real Espana in the UNCAF Club Competiton), Wagiya - Dangriga, San Pedro Dolphins - San Pedro, Santel’s - San Ignacio (My other home team, which is actually from Santa Elena town), Belize Defence Force - Belize City, George Town Ibayani - Mango Creek.

The first scheduled games for the tournament were: Suga Boys Juventus vs Belize Defence Force - People’s Stad., Hankook Verdes vs Wagiya - Norman Broaster, Revolutionary Conquerors vs San Pedro Dolphins - Carl Ramos, F.C. Belize vs Santels - MCC Grounds.

My biggest debate for week 1 was whether to stay in Belize City and watch F.C. Belize Vs Santels, mostly because i wanted to see the Santel’s team in action after failing to do so last year, and also Marlon Meza, the Belizean Messi! Being a die hard Verdes fan, my other option was traveling to cayo to see the Verdes Vs Wagiya game. I opted for my second option.

Verdes Vs Wagiya

I was disappointed that Verdes lost 2-1 and gave away valuable Home points in their first game, but i definitely wasn’t disappointed with the Level of game play. This year’s team seemed to be strengthened by foreign players, there was a new left wing 17 a tall kid from Panama, a Central Defender #20, and in the forward line there was a new Brazilian kid with stylish orange hair and orange boots! There was of course the local guys, the Jimenez Brothers, Cheetie, Danny and Landy. The mid seemed strengthened with the presence of veterans like Ricey and another veteran player. Shamir Pacheco and other last year players complemented the defense.

The first half wasn’t impressive, both teams were getting to know each other, and to add to that the field was wet and slippery the effects of a slight drizzle. Nonetheless the goals did come, Wagiya scored first after what seemed lack of mark by the new defender the panamanian #17. Verdes then rallied back with Danny scoring his first goal of the tournament with some assist to his strong volley coming from the slippery conditions of the field. Then came the biggest blunder fo the game from the Verdes goalkeeper. failing to launch the ball, a nearby forward stole the ball from him and went ahead to score. I think if it wasn’t for this verdes would have managed to draw the game. The inexperience of the new young gaoley showed and verdes paid for this. Having lost last year’s Goal keeper Johnson to the Visiting Wagiya.

The second half was a different story, some noticeable effects of changes began to show. The #17 defender was changed for a local talented kid Humberto in the left back, he was impressive throughout the game and would constantly travel to the mid and provide nice passes to either Landy or Cheetie up front. The front was also strengthened with the appearance of Landy Jimenez. The second half was completely Verdes domination. The visiting team was constantly under pressure by some good display of football skills by Verdes. In short this type of football was enjoyable to watch. So even if they didn’t win, they showed the potential to play good football. They only lacked the finishing touch.. the equalizer. For a die hard fan like me, this was the best thing next to a win, they went down, but played honorable and enjoyable football, what the Brazilians would call Jogo Bonito.

Their upcoming game is with the San Pedro Dolphins in San Pedro, after watching their first game, i’m seriously tempted to make the trip and watch them play the competitive dolphins. In other unofficial news, the other home team Santels tied with the defending champs F.C. Belize, 1-1, I wonder if Marlon “El Matador” Meza scored?

Hell is to Float, Heaven is to Steer!

A 50 year old man once gave me this quote, after explaining that he had worked most of his life as a pharmacist, never married, and had no kids. He told me that what the phrase means is to be in control of your life, and thus your destiny. Doing what you love to do and being in control.

The phrase kept nagging at me and was in the back of my mind for a while. After a while i forgot about it… and went on with my daily living, working, eating, and paying bills.

Right after my birthday, I basically had a panic attack, a nervous breakdown you could say. I felt that everything i was doing didn’t make sense, i was constantly stressing myself out with school, work, financial situations. So i decided to quit everything and take a break, after all i hadn’t taken a break for over 3 years, no vacation, and the past summer i had spent working straight through.

I took some time off, went home rested a while, read a lot of books, and basically just tried to de-stress myself. When i felt that i was de-stressed, i came back to the city, and basically things began taking shape, and am currently working on some life plans i had always wanted to work on.

While i still got to work, i feel I have more flexibility now, with my current work situation, and also flexibility with school. I’m basically doing what I want to do. Then the phrase came back to me, being in heaven is basically doing what you want to do, being able to steer. If its not being in heaven, then at the very least steering your own path in life is the closest to heaven you’ll get.

Rooney injured again. The new Premier League season has started...

Rooney injured again. The new Premier League season has started and my favorite team Manchester United and Wayne Rooney have started in a bad way, drawing 0-0 with Reading on sunday, and Rooney recieving an injury.

In other football news, seasons worldwide have started like the Mexican League, and of course the MLS has been going. L.A. Galaxy not playing any soccer at all. I’m trying to be a fan of Galaxy but they make it very difficult. The Beckham Bench Situation does not make it any better. The certainly aren’t making the playoffs.

Belize Football

Revolutionary Conquerers almost tied with Real Espana in the UNCAF Club competition!! Looking forward to the game here in Belize.

There's no money in web design anymore.

Ok, before all the flaming starts… lets just say that at least in my country Belize, there isn’t. Seriously though… speaking about web design as it’s traditionally thought of… i can safely say that the web design business is dead.

So how do i come to this conclusion? well for starters here’s a short list.

1. Everyone and Anyone who is somebody in the business and the internet world already has a website.

2. Those that don’t have, are looking to get on the internet: fast, cheap and easy. CHEAP being the keyword here.

3. Everybody and their mom knows or pretends to know how to make a website.

The list could go on, but lets start here by dissecting point number 1… do you know of any company serious about their business that doesn’t have a website? I could almost bet half of my paycheck that the answer is no. Everyone and their marketing department have realized the power that the internet holds and have either created, are in the process of finishing or relaunching their website. The chances of getting a major website design project is almost slim to none, especially if you’re not an established company in your current market. Chances are as slim as Peter from Family Guy losing weight!

CHEAP or BUDGET Website Design

So what about the other people who don’t have websites? well this mostly consists of small, tiny or minute companies trying to leverage the internet to maximize their business’ as most as possible. They want to do this with as little or no money if possible and they want to this NOW!! so whats the problem with that you’ll say? Yes, somebody needs to service this market, after all even fat and ugly girls need some loving huh? Well the problem lies in that these small websites can take up as much time as a large project. How is that possible? Clients are far more aware of the internet now that before, they know what is a website, they know what is HTML, they know what is a template. And they certainly don’t want a template. They want complete, customized designs and websites with all the bells and whistles for $500 or less. No Kidding!! I’d rather go sell Panades on the corner than do this! O.K. well, i won’t really sell panades but my theory is that doing customized websites for small business can take as much time as working on a large project. Especially if the client doesn’t have content, and takes forever in getting it together, and especially if you don’t have a tried and proven web development process. You can be my guest and go ahead and offer them a full customized package, throw in the content, web forms, menu’s, site search, search engine optimization and hosting…You’ll go broke in no time and will really think about opening that Panades shop instead.

My third and last point… for now, Everyone and their brothers, their mom or grandma’s pretend to know that they can build a website. Heck, there’s even one guy here in Belize advertising “Web Design Classes in Frontpage” in the newspapers. Yes you heard right, FRONTPAGE, Microsoft Frontpage. I thought they didn’t make that software anymore?? jajaja Anyways my point is there is so much competition, everyone is willing to have a go at it and hack together a couple pages, slap some graphics and pictures, charge as little as the price of a good coffee and say they’re web designers. This isn’t bad you will say, as the best will survive. Yes, but they’re diluting and misinforming the clients and market. They make promises of grandeur for very little money because they don’t know or are ignorant of the process of truly creating a professional, intuitive, standards compliant website. This then affects the real professionals as they have to live down to the expectations of the clients and charge far less what they would normally charge.

So why am i being so critical of the web design business, when I myself am in it and have been in it for a while now? Well I’m just giving you food for thought, something that has been in my mind for a while; which i came about thinking while me and my boss were having a meeting about Search Engine Optimization, and he made a comment about this being a difficult business. Darn right, i thought… but do we get out of it? NO, don’t get me wrong, i didn’t say their is no money to be made on the WEB. Just traditionally as web design is seen, there is none, that industry is dead. This doesn’t mean however there are not other ways of making money by doing web work. There are, plenty of people are doing so.

And how do you ask? wouldn’t you like to know! I’ll leave that for my upcoming post. For now, keep this in mind, Be innovative, be different, and most of all Be A Trusted adviser.

Too busy, Too Lazy or a combination.

Today i feel the need to write, to speak out my frustrations. Though while i feel i’ve been productive at work, and i feel i’m getting more organized as we go along. Today i felt tired, as i sometimes feel. I feel a lack of energy, the want to quit, even before the day is over.

Is it cause i’m trying to do so much? I juggle various things at a time, that has always been a thing with me. I lead a busy life in all aspects. Now with an extension to the family, and complicating financial situations… i feel too much is enough. At times i feel like quiting, not work specifically, but quit trying… but at other times i convince i can only go ahead.

At 23, i would have loved to have seen myself, firmly grounded, with the least a Bachelor’s degree, A good job that i love, and financially stable. Instead i find myself still attempting to finish the degree, constantly struggling and juggling my finances, and while i do have a good job that i love, i feel i’m somewhat underestimated and overlooked at times.

Well i guess there’s nothing much i can do but Vent, … its either quiting everything and going to the ranch to chill, fish and swim or continuing the struggle. I guess its just the burned out me at the end of the week speaking.

'There's this delusion that the Premiership is great'

'There's this delusion that the Premiership is great': Alexi Lalas pisses off some English Football Heads, but i have to agree with him, the Premiership is basically 4 teams, man utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. While the MLS is young, there is a lot of competition. I admire Lalas as an executive, now lets see if his decision in bringing David Beckham will pay off.

Federico Rojas: The father of the father of Engadget - Engadget

Federico Rojas: The father of the father of Engadget - Engadget:
Such a moving article by Peter Rojas about his father. made me appreciate that I still have my Dad.

Verdes have once again been knocked out, this time in the playoff stage of the RFG Insurance Cup.

Verdes drew 1-1 with Dangriga’s Revolutionary Conquerer’s, but lost because of the away goal rule. They had previously drawn 0-0 in the first game of the home and away series. It must have been bittersweet, not being beaten by the strong Dangriga Team, but at the same time losing on aggregate.

Being the fan that i am, i’m still with them, win, lose or draw, league finals or not. However i cant help but criticize a bit, as i think there is much potential in the verdes team, but it isn’t being realized. Take this last game this past sunday for example, Verdes came in playing some really bad football, making mistakes, left and right, especially in the defense, which led to Dennis “Den-Den” Serano’s goal for the Conquerers. At times it seemed they didnt know or didnt care that they faced elimination, the players were without motivation.

Fortunately, there was a visible change of the starting 11 in the second half, they came in stronger and put pressure on the dangriga team, but failed to capitalize, until the almost the final 10 minutes, by a beautiful goal from Orlando “Leech” Jimenez. It was a pleasure watching them play that way, since i know the players definitely have the potential to reach to the finals and to win the cup eventually.

I think for this next season the managment needs to do some changes. Although they did make some good changes when they became Verdes United, teaming up with Benque’s Football academy added some strengths and players to the team. Pedro Guerra, and other young players made a difference in the defence, while Mora (#23), gave some muscle to mid and forward. However the lack of a strong middle was apparent with the lack of Deris “Colombia” Benavides, who was transferred to San Pedro’s Costa Del Sol Nairi’s. Also it was evident that their lead scorere of last season Marlon “El Matador” Mesa was missed. He was transfered to the New team Santels, this probably due to 2 reasons, 1. being that Santels is Marlon’s Home town team, as i understand its mostly based with players from Santa Elena Town and 2. The possible conflict and competition with the Jimenez Brothers, I think Marlon had to frequently fight to prove himself with the stiff competition especially from Danny Jimenez. This could have been one of the weakening points for verdes this season, because even though the Jimenez brothers are very good at forward, they sometimes lack the ability to capitalize and score goals when most needed, something that Marlon never lacked.

Well these are my commentaries on my favorite team, having followed them closely this season, i can only wait and see what changes the new season will bring, if any.

For now i will have to settle to enjoying semi-final action from the likes of F.C. Belize who will take on Tex mar boys, in which i predict to be an easy game for F.C. Belize, even thought their 22 unbeaten game streak was broken after losing 1-0 to San Pedro. In the Derby of Dangriga, Wagiya and Conquerers will battle it out to prove which one is the better team out of the south. Wagiya is an established team having won the championship, and been closely in contention each season since its inception, while Conquerers is a new team, but a very strong team with the likes of players like Lennox “Criminal” Castillo, the coveted goalkeeper Woodrow West, and Veteran Maestro Norman “tilliman” Nunez Pipersburgh. I’m predicting a 1-1 draw in this derby, which will lead to penalty kicks. For the Finals i’m predicting F.C. Belize *once again VS Wagiya. From there on its the better team that wins. Though i wouldn’t be surprised it being F.C. Belize again.

** I wouldn’t be that surprised however if Conquerer’s make it through, especially if they reach Penalty kicks, as they have in Woodrow West one of the Best Goalkeepers in the league right now.
